Caltech Announces Advances in Systems Engineering, MBSE, and Executive Education Ahead of AFCEA WEST 2026
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Feb. 10–12, 2026) — The Caltech Center for Technology and Management Education (Caltech CTME) today announced significant program advancements in systems engineering, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), and executive education in advance of AFCEA WEST 2026, where Caltech CTME will meet with government and industry partners throughout the conference.
First, Caltech CTME’s Systems Engineering Certificate Program has been formally recognized by INCOSE for Academic Equivalency. Participants completing the Caltech certificate may now earn their Systems Engineering Professional (SEP) credential concurrently—streamlining certification while maintaining Caltech’s academic rigor.
Second, all Caltech MBSE Certificate Programs now fully incorporate SysML v2, aligning with next-generation systems modeling standards. To support organizations transitioning existing models and toolchains, Caltech has also launched a new short course, Transitioning Models to SysML v2 with MBSE.
In addition to these offerings, Caltech CTME delivers tailored programs in Airworthiness Fundamentals, Secure Systems Engineering, and Acquisitions Engineering for AI and Digital Systems. All programs are designed to speed action, improve execution, and support adaptiveness in evolving mission environments.
Finally, Caltech CTME announced the launch of Managing Advanced Technologies, a six-day, immersive, on-campus executive education program for senior leaders responsible for advanced systems, emerging technologies, and cross-domain integration.
“These developments reflect Caltech’s role in advancing systems engineering practice and technology leadership,” said Dr. Rick Hefner, Executive Director of Caltech CTME. “From credential alignment to SysML v2 adoption and executive education, we’re enabling organizations to move faster and with greater confidence.”
Mike Ash, Director of Caltech CTME, added, “AFCEA WEST brings together leaders responsible for delivering secure, mission-critical systems. These programs are designed for engineers and decision-makers operating where standards, technologies, and operational demands are evolving in real time.”
Caltech CTME representatives will be available for discussions with government and industry partners during AFCEA WEST 2026, February 10–12, in San Diego, California; Booth 4518 in 2F Sails Pavilion at the San Diego Conference Center.
